This super elegant and creamy dessert now in its best vegan version. And you know what I loved about this recipe? That the vegan version has the same flavor, but it is much faster and easier to make!
Since I tried this dessert I fell in love with it. Crème Brûlée has always been and always will be my favorite dessert. But since I became vegan, I haven't eaten it because I couldn't find vegan Crème Brûlée in any restaurant.
It looks like a difficult recipe but it is easy!
Crème Brûlée is a dessert from fancy restaurants and we always hear those stories that chef apprentices have to practice a thousand times until they can make a perfect one. It sounds so difficult that we are even afraid to try.
Isn't it true? If the most renowned Chefs in the world have to practice a thousand times before they can make one, then how can I do it? Exactly! That's what I thought. Then you add the fact that you can not find this dessert in any vegan restaurant, you immediately think that it is a recipe so complicated that no one was able to veganize it. So I just accepted my destiny and kept waiting one day maybe to find this vegan delight.
But thanks to Valentine's Day I had to find a way to make one
It was because of my YouTube channel that I needed to develop a recipe for a Crème Brûlée and managed to finally eat what i missed for so many years. Three weeks before Valentine's Day I had decided to make a series of 3 videos that would form a starter, a main course, and a dessert for people who were in a lockdown (like me) to have a romantic dinner at home. The initial idea was to make another dessert, but in the week of the video I decided to change it because the first idea was more complicated to make and this could become an anxiety on the day of the celebration for many people, as we are all exhausted without needing extra stress in this pandemic, I decided to switch it. But what vegan dessert could I make? What other dessert could be as elegant? That's when I decided to go for it and make my own vegan recipe of Crème Brûlée right away.
As every Crème Brûlée should be
No tofu, lemon, or any other strange ingredient that a Crème Brûlée shouldn't have
All the recipes I found on the internet had some weird ingredients like coconut milk, lemon, tofu, which completely changed the taste of a dessert that should be just cream, vanilla, and caramel. I don't know why people invent so much. Anyway, now enough of a chit chat and let's get down to business.
INGREDIENTS:
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- Pinch of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric
- 300ml of vegan double cream (https://youtu.be/4aRPn1M0Y2w)
- 500ml of soy milk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mrYSu69T-s)
- 4 tablespoons of vanilla extract
- Sugar to caramelize (the amount depends on the width of the container of your Crème Brûlée
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Add all the cream ingredients to a saucepan and cook over medium-low heat.
2. When it reaches the boiling point, cook for another 2 minutes.
3. Place the cream in smaller containers and leave in the refrigerator for at least 1hr
4. Put sugar on top and caramelize with fire
